The PPISMP TESL Semester 2 students of Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Rajang held a Cultural Cooking Fiesta on the 26 January 2015 at the PULAKO of IPG Kampus Rajang. The aim of the activity was to expose the traditional food from different ethnics in Sarawak. This was in line with the course TSL 1044 (Language, Culture & Society). About fifteen students, who are all students of the PPISMP TESL Semester 2, took part in the activity.
This activity was not a cooking-eating activity but one that gave us a host of information as the various ethnic foods which do tell us a thing or two about our cultures. It is really amazing and thrilling to know the type of food related to each other’s culture. Before we ate, each ethnic group had to give a commentary on the food that was prepared and it was really interesting to note that there are reasons as to why it is a staple food. We learnt so much from this class.
